The quickest way to get started writing is to write a calendar blurb. The calendar of South Side events is a crucial part of our publication, and writing a short 30-40 word blurb about an event is a fast and super helpful way to contribute to the Weekly and get your name in the paper. Watch out for the calendar email every week.
Our managing editors (Julia Aizuss and Andrew Koski) will send out a document full of pitches. If you’re interested in writing one, you’ll respond to the email and let them know. If it’s your first time writing for us, you might want to include a bit of information about your journalism experience (not required).
VISUALS: Are you into photography, illustration, digital art, data visualization, or any kind of visual art? Contact our visuals editor, Ellen Hao. We also publish an annual Comics issue in the summer.
FACT-CHECK: If you’d like to join our fact-checking team, contact our fact-checking coordinator, Adam Przybyl, about any upcoming fact-checking trainings.
