Chima Ikoro

Chima Ikoro (also known as Naira) is a first-generation Nigerian from the southside of Chicago and a student at Columbia College with a major in Film (screenwriting) and a minor in Environmental Studies. Naira is also an activist and co-founder of a four-person collective called Blck Rising. The collective focuses on organizing, abolition work, and mutual aid. Above all, poetry is her first language and she has been creatively writing since she was ten years old.
Madeleine Parrish

Madeleine Parrish is a Chicago-based freelance journalist originally from New Jersey. Her previous reporting has focused on education, policing, politics, and health. She is currently studying Political Science and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of Chicago, and has served as the Chicago Section Editor and the co-Editor in Chief of The Gate, UChicago's political publication. She has loved writing for the South Side Weekly over the past year and is so excited to serve in this new role and work alongside writers interested in covering all topics related to education!
Alma Campos
Immigration Editor
Alma Campos is a bilingual journalist, writer and translator. She explores and writes about the workings behind systems of power, centering her work on immigrant and working class communities. Prior to joining South Side Weekly, she worked for Univision Chicagoās digital team as digital producer and weekend and evening breaking news desk reporter. In 2018, she was a City Bureau civic reporting fellow. Alma is also the co-founder of Coordenadas, a literary magazine and space for immigrants and refugees who want to grow as writers. Her work has been featured in Crainās, WTTW, and South Side Weekly. Alma was born in Jalisco, Mexico. She currently lives in McKinley Park.
